Video is the most powerful weapon for the online marketing and entertainment world. If you are into digital marketing or run your own online business then you must know the importance of good video content.

Videos not only entertain people, but they also make them aware of your brands and events. You can write thousands of words in a blog post or press release, but that same thing can be done in a better way within a 2 minutes video.

Look at YouTube, how many influencers are there? How many reviews and ted talks that are rocking our past time. Then look at social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Everyone is trying to attract attention with videos.

So, videos are important for everyone. It can be your business or personal life, but there is no alternative to videos right now.

Today we are going to discuss some of the best video editing tools that you can use to create/edit videos for your Youtube channel and Facebook promotion.

Here is our list of video editor that needs your attention: –

  1. Lightworks
  2. Filmora
  3. Adobe Express
  4. Movavi
  5. Corel VideoStudio
  6. flexclip
  7. CyberLink PowerDirector
  8. Renderforest
  9. Animoto
  10. WeVideo

There are plenty more software in the market, but we think these will be enough to do the job.

01. Lightworks

Go ask anyone who uses video on their blog regularly will tell you to use Lightworks.

Lightworks has a history of 25 years. It is being used in the professional editing job like Hollywood movies. The initial software is free and you can use the premium version on a 7 day trial after that you have the option to upgrade for $24.99/month.

If you continue to use the free version, no problem with that. The free and pro upgrade is almost the same in functionality, but it will limit your video export quality in the free version.

Lightworks, as we tested, is not just a replacement tool for the windows movie maker. It is a full-featured video editor for any purpose. You might use it for simple cut and combine your YouTube video clips, or you can use it for a full-fledged featured short film.

The software is most advanced in terms of free video editing tools. As a first time user, you might get overwhelmed by the editing panel, but after some time, you will get used to it.

02. Filmora

This video editing tool is my personal favorite. Easy to use control panel and fast on your PC. Filmora itself advertises itself as the alternative of windows movie maker & iMovie.

Although, I believe it is far better than than the now-extinct windows movie maker. Windows movie maker had a limitation with the effects and editing quality. Which is a nice addition to the Filmora.

In Filmora you have more than 800 effects for your video. You can add nice and professional video effects, transition in between clips, and music from the online library.

Also adding and editing the external soundtrack is very easier for any novice person, which is a plus point of Filmora.

03. Adobe Express

Yes, this is from the famous Adobe. Express is somewhat different from the other video editing tools on our list. You can use the software for free. Just create an account and then start editing. But, the limitation is with the template you can use.

Adobe Express is available on Android, iOS and stand-alone desktop software.

Adobe Express is not a full-fledged movie editing software. This works best if you are going to use for short 30 sec videos for your social media promotions.

It is used mostly to create stunning visual web pages, storytelling for social media marketers and short videos.

Adobe Express premium templates are available as a stand-alone subscription or with adobe creative cloud. You can get all the premium templates, fonts, and graphics that are not available in the free version.

Simply, Adobe Express lets you create short videos from graphics and music it owns. You can add yours too, but it is not suitable for editing longer video clips.

04. Movavi

Movavi is a versatile video editing software. You can capture screencast, edit photos and multimedia with its all in one PC suit.

The software is paid, but you can download and register to use the 7-day free trial. Movavi software is available for both PC and Mac versions. I haven’t found any android version for the software. Although this is not a setback as most of the time heavy video editing needs a larger screen. So it is pointless to spend time on a smaller mobile screen.

Like other video editors, you can easily cut copy paste from existing video clips. One setback is it doesn’t have a dedicated track for sound editing.

After importing a video it is directly added in the editing track. I didn’t like this at all. It should have been added in the preview panel first then I should be able to choose it or delete it. If you are importing a lot of clips together then this might be a problem. You need to select individual tracks from your PC to maintain the serial.

Apart from these, this is a great tool to add high-quality titles and effects on your video. Give it a try in the 7-day trial run.

05. Corel VideoStudio

This can be a nice addition to your video editing software list. Anyone looking for a feature-rich video editing tools can consider the Corel VideoStudio Pro. The price is $63 with a discount and if you are upgrading from an older version you can just pay $48. Although the upgrade is limited to a few versions only.

The good thing is before trying the software you have the 7-day trial window to try it.

I wouldn’t recommend this editor for a professional approach to make movies and other things. But, it is great for making simple videos for online presentations, youtube, friends & family, school projects, etc.

We have seen better software like filmora if you compare to buy one.

One drawback of the program is it has only one video track. Professional video editing needs multiple tracks to edit with more precision. Also, when I am adding videos from multiple sources this is easier to track down the clips.

The interface is simple and easy to learn, that is a plus point. Output video quality is good. The company is adding more effects and stabilization in the software. From my point of view, this is a software that has great potential to become the best.

06. Flexclip:

If you are in a hurry to make some short clips for your family or school project, then go no further than Flexclip.

Flexclip is a web-based video editor. If you have a chrome browser then you can get the most output. Just sign in and start uploading your clips. They have a good amount of music and effects library. You can add edit and make your video look like a professional one in no time.

Although the software is initially free to start with, it has limitations for free users. You can create only a 1-minute video in the free segment. And the output quality can’t exceed the 480p SD version. With the paid subscription you can enjoy more benefits like Full HD video download and up to 5 mins of video with your watermark.

All in one, this is a quick video producing toll for the social media or portfolio project. You can’t use it for longer videos for your YouTube channel.

 Some of its key features:

  • Completely free to start.
  • Choose from a wide range of high-resolution photos, video footage, and music.
  • A clean storyboard allows everyone to trim video, insert text, add music, record voiceover with a few clicks.
  • Export videos in different aspect ratios and resolutions including 1080p, 720p, and 480p.

07. CyberLink PowerDirector

PowerDirector is one of the easiest video editing tools. It is paid software but you can get the trial to get a hold on it.

The thing I loved about PowerDirector is it’s easy to use interface for importing and previewing the clips.

PowerDirector is helpful for beginners to start their editing career, but for complex work, I am not going to recommend it. Some of the elements, transition, and effects for the tile and credits are not up to the professional mark.

For personal use, this is very good software, but for commercial use, it lacks many things that are present in its competitors like Coreldraw and Filmora.

08. Renderforest

This is an excellent online video editing tool. Somewhat similar to the Flexclip software. You are getting 500MB of cloud storage to upload your videos as a free user. Good for testing purposes.

In between Renderforest and Flexclip, my vote will go to Renderforest. If you are looking for creating custom logo animation for your brand or YouTube video opening then you can try Renderforest.

They have an online video editor, logo maker, and even a limited website builder. Without any subscription plan, you are limited to music tracks, video quality, and online storage.

The plus point is you do not need a heavy machine to render your videos. Everything is done on their server. They have a great template collection like the Flexclip. You select one and then start adding your images and logos as needed.

It is not recommended for commercial uses as there is much better offline software available.

09. Animoto

Like the name says, it is going to give your videos an easy to edit interface. You add videos, music, photos and then compile them into an animated storytelling video.

They have a drag and drop template interface. You do not need to be a geek to start your own video. A great collection of music and photos for your clip are available in the library.

You can try with a free account, but it is limited to image and video quality output. Also, they will put a watermark on your video.

This kind of web-based video tools is getting popular with time. Users do not need to worry about the ability of their physical machines. Everything is done online. All you need to have is a good quality internet connection and a browser.

10. WeVideo

This is another online video editing tool. Online entrepreneurs who need to add videos regularly on social media can try this easy to use video editor. You can even screencast with this web-based software.

One good thing about the software is you can get it for your Android and iOS devices also. Pricing starts from $4.99/month, billed annually. Although you can have a free trial account, you can’t do much with it.

All the video editing software that works on a web-based platform lacks one basic thing, that is fine-tuning your audio clips. There are very few capabilities where you can trim and enhance your audio clips. Apart from that, you can easily make a one or two-minute video without any video editing knowledge and without installing any software.

Honorable Mention:

Apart from the above video editing software, I want to mention the following.

11. MySimpleShow

I wanted to include this separately on my list. You might have seen all those YouTube videos with cartoons and drawings where a core subject is explained via voice.

This is a great way to promote an idea, meeting agenda, teach kids about simple things and making science videos, etc. Everything is visually explained with attractive animation and your voice is in the background.

This is a fun way to make a presentation. If you want to make videos like this, MySimpleShow is the place you need to go. Upload your presentation and see the magic. Edit as you need and your final product is ready. I like the idea very much and this is being used widely nowadays.

Free trials are included but you better get a subscription for the full fun.

So, these are in my top 10 list of video editing software. Some of them need vast knowledge and practice for video production. But, most of them are very easy to use. Specially the web-based software is ready to use in no time.

Now, tell me which one you liked most and what you want to see in an ideal video editing software? From my experience, you need to use several tools to get the ultimate pro-grade video output. You can’t just depend on a single one.

What's your thought?
